1. How do I download and install the program?

Our programs are packaged in a self-extracting archives with .EXE extensions.  When the self-extracting archive is opened, an installation program will install the software on your hard drive.

To download a program, first go our download page by clicking on the download button. This will start the download, if you are using Internet Explorer, the following window will appear:

For other browsers, a similar window will appear.  Check the "Save this program to disk" box, then click the OK button.

You will then be asked where you wish to save the installer.  The window will look something like this:

Choose an appropriate location on your hard drive, then click the "Save" button.  Make sure you remember where the file is saved!  We recommend you save all downloads to "C:\MyDocuments\".

A window will appear displaying the progress of the download.  Once the download has finished, the window will look something like this:

You can click the "Open" button to start the installation process.  If this window does not appear, or if you want to run the installer later, then you must find the downloaded file using Windows Explorer, and double click on it.

The installation procedure is very simple.  The only decision you will need to make is where (on your hard drive) the program should be installed.  We recommend that you use the default location provided provided by the installer.

Other installation notes:

You may install newer versions over older versions. Each installer is completely self-contained.  You do not have to install a base package, then a patch.

2. I'm having trouble downloading the program.

We have found our distribution partners and our servers to be very reliable.  Still, the forces of nature may conspire against you, and you may have trouble downloading one of our programs.  If this happens, try rebootting your computer and attempting the download procedure again.

If your connection is being dropped consistently during the download, you will have to contact your ISP or phone company.

If you're still having no luck, contact our tech support.

3. I ran the installation program and it crashed. Why?

The most likely answer is that you had one or several other programs running at the time. Windows (particularly Win95 and Win98) does not like having programs' running while an installation is being performed. Be sure that no other programs are running when you run the JotSmart setup.

4. How do I set up my e-mail program to correctly send messages with images?

In order for your recipients to be able to view your marked-up images, you must ensure that your e-mail program is sending out correctly formatted messages. Typically, each e-mail program is setup to handle image file transfers by default. You should double check these settings, however, using the following methods:

Select the following:

  1. Tools menu

  2. Options...

  3. Attachments icon (left side of dialog window)

  4. In "Encoding Method" be sure that MIME is selected

      B. In "When sending HTML mail messages..." choose either:

    • i.  Send the message in HTML anyway
ii.  Send the message in plain text and HTML

(the latter is the most reliable method of a recipient being able to read your messageand view the image and listen to the audio)

5. I have several e-mail programs that I use.
How do I specify which e-mail program JotSmart will use?

You can set the e-mail program that JotSmart uses in JotSmart's Settings box. To select the e-mail program:

  1. Click on the "+" button
(upper right area of JotSmart's Toolbox):

The "Settings Menu" (shown below) will appear.

  1. Select the e-mail program you wish to use

  2. Click [OK]

Note - This does not change Windows' default e-mail program. It merely changes the e-mail program that JotSmart will use.

6. How should I install a newer version over an older one?

All of DailyToast software products are designed to allow upgrades to be installed seamlessly and easily.  Simply download the new version's install file, and execute the setup program.  This installation program will detect the previously installed version and will then upgrade your computer with the new version.

7. How should I install JotSmart to a new location or machine?

Simply download JotSmart and then install on the machine.  After installing to the new location, you will need to enter your previously provided registration number.  Please remember that while the JotSmart license allows you to install JotSmart on more than one computer, it only allows you to run JotSmart on one of those computers at any given moment of time.  Again, multiple copies of a registered version of JotSmart (i.e. with the same registration number) may not be run simultaneously on the same or different machines.

8. Can I install the program on a network drive?

No.  Our programs must be installed on the machine from which they are run.

9. Can the installation program be run from a network location?

Yes.  In addition, the network location does not have to be mapped to a drive letter.
