1. How do I uninstall JotSmart?

There are two methods of uninstalling JotSmart from most Windows operating systems:

     1. Menu Method
        Select each of the following in order:
           a. Windows' Start menu
           b. Program menu
           c. JotSmart menu
           d. Uninstall item

     2. Add/Remove Window
         Select each of the following in this order:
           a. Windows' Start menu
           b. Settings...
           c. Control Panel
           d. Add/Remove Programs
           e. JotSmart
           d. [Remove] button

Either of these methods will cause the uninstaller program to run.
 

2. How do I get rid of the "Jot" icon in the system tray?

By default, JotSmart (v1.1 or higher) installation program will NOT create shortcut icons on your desktop nor in the System Tray.  If you would like these shortcuts to appear, simply check the appropriate boxes in the dialog box during installation.

• If you did not chose the shortcut icons during installation, but later decide you do want the shortcuts simply run JS_Ask_Icon.exe (in the JotSmart directory) by double clicking on its icon and then select the appropriate shortcut.

• If later you decide you do NOT want the shortcuts on the desktop or in the system tray, simply run JS_Ask_Icon.exe by double clicking on its icon.

• If you do NOT want to keep the shortcuts BUT you do not have a copy of JS_Ask_Icon.exe (e.g. you are running JotSmart version 1.0), perform the following steps after the installation has completed:

Desktop Shortcut

1. Find the Jot icon on the desktop.
2. Move the arrow cursor over the Jot icon and click the right mouse button (a pop-up menu should appear).
3. Select "Delete" from the menu that appears.
4. A dialog will appear, asking if you wish to send JotSmart to the Recycle Bin.  Click the "Yes".

  System Tray

1. Right click on the Jot icon in the system tray.
2. Select Exit from the pop-up menu.
3. Click Windows "Start" button (usually in the lower left corner of the screen).  A pop-up menu should appear.
4. Move the mouse cursor over the "Programs" item (another pop-up menu will appear).
5. Move the mouse cursor over the "Startup" menu item (another pop-up menu will appear).  
6. Move the mouse over the  "JotSmart Systray" menu item.
7. Click the RIGHT mouse button.  Yet another popup menu will appear.
8. Select "Delete" from the menu.
9. Click on the "Yes" button when the prompt to "Are you sure you wish to send JotSmart Systray to the Recycle Bin?" appears.

3. When I uninstall JotSmart, the icon remains in the system tray (lower left corner of windows, where clock is). Why?

The short answer is: the icon should disappear after installation.  The Uninstaller program is supposed to take care of this, but Windows occasionally refuses to stop JotSmart's system tray program from running.

Even though the files have been deleted from the disk, JotSmart's system tray program cannot be deleted from memory unless it has been stopped first.  Since Windows refuses to allow the uninstaller to do this, the icon remains.  The way around this problem is to restart Windows.  Once you restart Windows (thus flushing memory of JotSmart's system tray program and icon), the icon will not appear in the system tray and the uninstall will be complete.

4. When I uninstall JotSmart, the directory is not deleted. Why?

This is another occasional issue with Windows and the Uninstaller. If this occurs, simply delete the directory manually (i.e. using Windows Explorer), select the directory and hit the [Delete] key or select File menu and then the Delete option.
