All About JotSmart
 


What is JotSmart?

JotSmart is a Windows®-based software program that allows you to capture and annotate - with text, graphics, and audio - any information from any software program on your PC.   Click JotSmart's Send Via E-mail button   and your marked-up information will be sent to your default e-mail program, where the image will appear directly in a new message. No attachments to specify, no commands to memorize.  You are then free to add additional text messages, specify recipients and send the message on it's way. 

It's that simple!
 

The recipient of your message will view the message and image as they would any other e-mail message - NO special software is required on their side! (For more details on using JotSmart, see "How Does it Work?" below)
 

JotSmart features an easy installation/setup and a familiar graphics interface that makes learning and using the software a snap.

JotSmart version 1.1 is shareware that is being distributed as a 45-day trial product.  If you like JotSmart and want to continue using it after the 45-day free trial, we offer an easy online registration method.  Please see our Buy Now! page for more information.
 

How Does JotSmart Work?

When JotSmart is run, two items appear:

  1. The Toolbar
  2. The Work Area 
The Toolbar consists of 10 tools to draw and create audio messages with. Two other tools are used to save the work to e-mail, the disk, or the clipboard:

  Highlighter Pen

Highlight text and graphics using either the translucent higlighter pen or a highlight shape (rectangles, elipses, and/or polygons).

  Pencil

Create free-form lines. 

  Lines and Arrows

Underline, cross out or point to information.

  Note Pad

Write text messages on a yellow "sticky" note or directly on the image.

  Voice Messages

Create and record a voice message 
(attach to email as a file).

  Color Selection

Change the color of a line, geometric shape or the text.

  Font

Change any aspect of the font used in the text.

  Line Style

Change the color, thickness and style of the lines.

  Geometric Shapes

Mark around an area or fill in the shape to cover up an area using rectangles, elipses, and/or polygons. 

 Save

Save to the disk or to the Windows' clipboard.

  Send Via E-mail

Transfer marked area to your E-mail program.

All drawings and markups you make with these tools in the work area can be moved, resized, reshaped, recolored or removed at any time. 

Other features include:

  • Select an e-mail program other than your default program.
  • Force images as attachments,
    instead of embedded in the e-mail messages.
  • Select the type of image sent: PNG, JPG or smallest size.

  • Complete online help, including a tutorial.

 

The Work Area is a resizable, movable red rectangle that appears on top of the screen next to the JotSmart toolbar:

You draw inside this rectangle using JotSmart's mark-up tools.  The pictures, graphics, text and audio that appear inside this work area will be sent to your e-mail program (note that the red rectangle will not appear in the saved image).
 

You can think of JotSmart's work area as a clear piece of celophane that you placed over the computer screen in order to mark-up the information underneath... only JotSmart is a lot less messy!

JotSmart software captures and stores the marked-up information in standard image and audio formats -- JPG and PNG for images, WAV audio for voice messages.   By supporting standard industry formats, JotSmart software creates files that can be viewed, played and edited with most standard graphics and audio software.
